Who’s fault is it anyway? Michael Schumacher vs Who’s fault is it anyway? Michael Schumacher vs Juan Montoya 2002 Malaysian GP.

JPM got the drive through penalty (the first in F1 history), but both drives agreed it was a racing incident.

"For me it was a race incident, I think for him it was the same”, commented Montoya.

Did Schumacher agree with Montoya’s assessment?

"To be honest, yes. I think we have seen far more extreme situations where nothing has happened and today, a little touch and something was done. We don't seem to have a very consistent situation."

MIRACLE: Nigel Corner is thrown from his Ferrari 2 MIRACLE: Nigel Corner is thrown from his Ferrari 246 during the 2000 Goodwood Revival.

Incredibly, he survived after landing on top of a tyre barrier. Despite suffering a number of broken bones, being thrown clear probably saved Corner’s life—there was no roll bar on the car.

“Those old Ferraris are bloody strong, but if I’d been belted in I’d be a dead man now,” he said.

Goodwood organisers later remarked provided how Corner seemed more annoyed at the damage to the car than his injuries:

“[He was] sitting up in his hospital bed with a cracked collar bone and ribs, and a punctured lung, anxious not for himself, but for the progress on restoring his Ferrari, and complaining about how much it will cost.”

The Circuit de Charade, nestled around the base of The Circuit de Charade, nestled around the base of two extinct volcanos outside Clermont-Ferrand, was the scenic host of the French Grand Prix four times between 1965 and 1972. With over 50 corners, the undulating and challenging layout was sometimes described as a "mini-Nordschleife" and prompted Stirling Moss to remark that he "[doesn't] know a more wonderful track".

An added challenge–and danger–came from the dark, loose volcanic stones which would often fall onto the circuit. During the final race there in '72, there were ten punctures, but even worse was the accident which befell future Red Bull kingpin, Dr Helmut Marko. On the eighth lap of the race, Emerson Fittipaldi's Lotus flicked a stone into the oncoming Marko; it pierced his helmet visor, permanently blinding his left eye.

The race review from Motorsport Magazine at the time gives a worrying insight into the sport's scant safety measures at the time, describing how "in terrible pain [Marko] stopped his BRM and got out to look for help".
