Latter-day Can-Am was wild! After the original Ca Latter-day Can-Am was wild!

After the original Can-Am collapsed at the end of 1974, the series was reborn for 1977 with single-seater 5.0-litre sports cars.

This resulted in some unique F5000 conversions—amongst them the Schkee DB1, essentially a re-bodied Lola T332.

Where the stars flew 💫
1979-2023

After the chequered flag waves tonight, it won’t be long before the bulldozers move in and the Speedway is erased from the map.

For once, it wasn’t noise complaints. Urban sprawl simply meant the land was too valuable for the owners not to sell.

Sadly, there are no plans for a replacement Speedway in Brisbane. As it stands, when the last engine goes silent tonight, Brisbane will no longer have a Speedway.

Archerfield will be gone forever—joining the likes of Liverpool, Parramatta and Claremont Speedways—but 44-years of memories will live on.

The legends have all raced here. Rush, Kinser, Schatz, Jackson, McFadden, the Tatnells and Dumesnys to name a few.

Mark Webber, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Tony Stewart have all watched from the stands.

For C+S, it’s a special place. Dad’s been going here for 40 years. I first went in the early-90s. It was the first racing I ever saw in the flesh.

It’s just always been there. Part of my life, part of Brisbane, something to do with dad. The more other types of racing changed, the more Archerfield stayed the same.

For better or worse, when you walked through the gates it could be 2023 or 2003 or 1993.

Going there always reminds me what I loved about motorsport in the first place.

Loud, raw, elbows out racing. Going home after the night, washing the dirt out of my hair. The way it’s meant to be.

For tonight’s final race, 30-odd years since I first went there, I’m honoured to be able to say that C+S is one of the sponsors. We’re sponsoring lap 3 of the final ever race—a 50 lap sprint car race.

It’s the final dance.

Let’s make it a big one!

Where the lions roared 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

When you think of the original Wembley Stadium, you probably think of football (England winning the ‘66 World Cup 🏆), or maybe iconic concerts like Live Aid.

But did you know it hosted Motorcycle Speedway in front of massive crowds?

Home to the famous Wembley Lions 🦁 Speedway team, the stadium’s 345-metre dirt track hosted Speedway from 1929 until 1981.

The World Championships were held there 24 times, with a record 95,000 fans attending the 1938 edition.

“I love F1 and Monaco is so iconic. But this stat is wild. The last on track pass for the lead was in 1996! Damon Hill passed Jean Alesi, but Alesi was on wets with Hill on slicks. The last pass before that was in 1987 when Ayrton Senna got by Nigel Mansel (sic).”

Will we see a pass for the lead today?

Of course, it’s disappointing that the GP won’t go ahead, but it’s 100% the right decision.

It’s just a race—important to remember that at least eight people have died so far in the floods that have hit the Emilia-Romagna region.

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted.
